Ten years ago, the technological equipment of China's heat treatment industry was still very backward. At that time, although there were no less than hundreds of thousands of heat treatment equipment nationwide, the proportion of advanced equipment such as controllable atmosphere accounted for less than 10%. In most heat treatment enterprises, the heat treatment sites were filled with old three furnaces (box-type, pit-type, salt bath furnace) with a service life of 30 to 40 years. Heat treatment processing was mostly manual, and the heat treatment quality was difficult to guarantee. The phenomenon of "three highs and one low" (high energy consumption, high pollution, high cost, low quality) was heartbreaking.
In order to change the backward appearance of China's heat treatment industry, under the promotion of the national low-carbon, energy-saving and emission reduction policies, and especially driven by the large-scale technological transformation of the automobile, aviation, shipbuilding, light rail, high-speed railway, heavy-duty machinery and wind power industries, China's heat treatment industry has been undergoing gratifying changes in recent years. These changes are mainly reflected in the following aspects:
1. The large-scale technological transformation and equipment upgrades of these enterprises have fundamentally changed the proportion of advanced equipment. The proportion of equipment such as controllable atmosphere and protective atmosphere has reached more than 90%. 1. Uses: Mainly used for the precise heat treatment of transmission parts of large-scale heavy-duty machinery, it can also be used for carburizing heat treatment of small and medium-sized parts with the maximum furnace load. Complete technical specifications, working area size: diameter φ1000~φ4000, height 1000~6000mm, maximum load: 2~58t, heating capacity: 250~2000kg.
2. Main features:
⑴The successful application of various special heat-resistant steel structure technologies in large well-type carburizing furnaces, including spherical dome-shaped air guiding cover, full corrugated muffle and guide tube, freely suspended air guiding hood, and open furnace cover insulation package, has solved problems such as thermal stress deformation and cracking of heat-resistant steel structural parts at high temperatures, increasing the service life by more than 3 times compared to conventional structures. Many technologies in this furnace are innovative designs with independent intellectual property rights and have been applied for technical patents.
The large controllable atmosphere well-type carburizing furnace won the Science and Technology Innovation Award from the China Heat Treatment Society and the Jiangsu Provincial High-tech Product Award in 2009.
⑵Using all-fiber furnace lining, optimized design, reasonable heating power configuration, and improved heating element component structure, it can save about 25% of electricity compared to conventional carburizing furnaces with the same furnace load, and more than 50% less electricity consumption than small RQ3 conventional carburizing furnaces. The energy-saving effect is significant, and the energy consumption standard has been significantly reduced compared to the old standard. Tests on multiple products show that the larger the furnace type and the larger the loading capacity, the lower the unit electricity consumption. For example, the loading capacity of φ2.0X2.0 is twice that of φ1.3X2.0, the electricity consumption of layer depth 1.5 is only 0.541kwh, and the electricity consumption of layer depth 3.3 is as low as 0.79kwh, only one-third of the old product. This indicator is close to the most advanced Japanese energy consumption indicator.
⑶Using an advanced intelligent control system. Temperature control of main control + linkage control + monitoring, multi-system, multi-mode, and multi-parameter carbon potential control, integrated intelligent control system, and complete interlocking alarm system enable precise control of large workpieces at high temperatures and high carbon potential. It not only meets the quality requirements of workpiece carburizing layer depth and microstructure, but also improves carburizing speed, shortens process time, saves electricity and process materials, and significantly reduces operating costs.

Appraised by the China Heat Treatment Industry Association, experts unanimously agreed that the RQD series of large controllable atmosphere well-type carburizing furnaces have stable and reliable product quality, small heat storage, fast heating and cooling speeds, and high efficiency and energy saving. It can achieve precise control of the carburizing hardening layer and microstructure of the product, reaching the advanced technical level of similar international equipment.
4. Promotion Prospects and Energy-Saving Benefits
⑴For large well-type carburizing furnaces, calculating the heat loss at 0.156kw/㎡ based on the reduction of furnace wall surface temperature rise from 50℃ to 40℃, and the annual operating time of the φ3.2×2.0 well-type carburizing furnace with a furnace wall surface area of approximately 110㎡ at 7200 hours, this alone can reduce the electricity consumption of furnace wall heat loss by 124,000 degrees per year.
Except for the furnace bottom, which needs to use refractory insulation bricks for load-bearing, the furnace wall of the well-type carburizing furnace is changed from the traditional refractory insulation brick structure to an all-fiber structure. The φ3.2×2.0 well-type carburizing furnace wall uses refractory insulation bricks, and the furnace wall heat storage reaches 2016kw. If changed to an all-fiber structure, the furnace wall heat storage is only 506kw. Based on an annual operating time of 300 days and one furnace cycle every 4 days, this alone can reduce the heat loss of heat storage by about 113,000 degrees per year.
The above two items, plus the all-fiber structure of the furnace cover, the strength design structure of the muffle, etc., the heating element installation structure, and the reasonable handling of various thermal short circuits, can reduce the electricity consumption of the φ3.2×2.0 well-type carburizing furnace by about 350,000 degrees per year.
⑵The conventional carburizing process usually has a carburizing temperature of 920℃ and a carbon potential of less than 1.1%C. Due to the significant improvement in the accuracy and methods of temperature and carbon potential control, the RQD large well-type carburizing furnace can perform carburizing at higher temperatures and higher carbon potentials during the carburizing process, not only ensuring product quality but also significantly shortening the carburizing process time.
In fact, the carbon potential can be increased to 1.25%C for strong carburizing, and the total process cycle can be shortened by at least 20%, greatly improving equipment utilization and significantly reducing overall energy consumption.
The large controllable atmosphere well-type carburizing furnace of Tianlong Company has been successfully used in the actual production of a certain company at a carburizing temperature of 960℃~970℃ and a carbon potential of 1.35%C~1.40%C.

(II) Large Energy-Saving Controllable Atmosphere Bell-Type Nitriding Furnace
1. Uses: Mainly used for surface nitriding, nitrocarburizing, pre-oxidation, and post-oxidation of products such as gears, shafts, and molds. Complete technical specifications, working area size: diameter φ1000~φ4000, height 1000~6000mm, maximum load: 2~75t, heating capacity: 350~2800kg.
2. Basic Situation:
(1) At present, most of the gas nitriding furnaces used in China generally use ammonia decomposition instruments to control the nitrogen potential, or purely use manual methods to control the nitrogen potential. These nitriding furnaces have a simple structure, high energy consumption, low control accuracy, and difficult-to-control product quality. Especially for products with deeper penetration layers, it is more difficult to achieve precise control of the penetration layer and internal structure, resulting in deviations in the nitriding layer depth and microstructure, as well as a large waste of electricity and process materials, which cannot meet the product requirements of high-quality nitrided parts.
(2) Due to the long atmosphere establishment and cooling process time of traditional gas nitriding furnaces, under the same production plan, the number of well-type furnaces is often more than that of bell-type furnaces to meet the production capacity requirements, resulting in a significant increase in equipment investment cost and operating energy consumption cost.
Tianlong Company's technical personnel, combining years of design experience and China's national conditions, have innovatively designed the RFN series of controllable atmosphere bell-type nitriding furnaces with internationally advanced technology. This equipment uses an all-fiber furnace lining and the latest integrated and information-based control technology, integrating functions such as temperature, nitrogen potential, PLC, recording, alarm, expert system, dynamic control, and management system. It uses a hydrogen probe to directly measure the nitrogen potential, a mass flow meter to control the supply and measurement of feedback data of the process medium, and intelligent PID adjustment control to achieve precise control of the nitriding process. ⑴Since its operation in 2007, the controllable atmosphere bell-type nitriding furnace has produced stable and reliable product quality, with a cumulative processing of more than 30,000 tons of various products. All technical performance indicators have met the design requirements, especially the high precision of temperature and nitrogen potential control. The equipment operates stably and reliably, fully meeting the product design requirements. ⑶Compared with well-type nitriding furnaces, the initial investment cost of bell-type nitriding furnaces is approximately 17% higher. 1. Uses: Mainly used for carburizing, carbonitriding, bright quenching, and normalizing heat treatment of various mechanical parts such as gears, bearings, chains, and hydraulic components in the automotive, motorcycle, engineering machinery, machine tool, powder metallurgy, and petrochemical industries. There are multiple specifications, with a maximum single-batch loading capacity of 450~3500kg and a heating capacity of 270~1000kg/h, meeting the needs of different customers, products, and production volumes.
2. Basic Situation:
The controllable atmosphere sealed box-type multi-purpose furnace is one of the most advanced furnace types in the world. ⑴Using a new type of anti-permeation fiber material as the furnace lining and eliminating the inner muffle device significantly reduces heat accumulation. China's heat treatment processing and heat treatment equipment can also, according to national conditions, under the leadership of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, under the organization of industry associations, and with the participation of numerous enterprises and scientific research institutions, forge a path with Chinese characteristics. Only then can we transform from a heat treatment powerhouse into a heat treatment strong country and achieve the best results in energy saving and emission reduction.
Currently, national documents such as the "Equipment Manufacturing Industry Adjustment and Revitalization Plan," "Clean Production Implementation Plan for the Heat Treatment Industry," and "Technical Requirements for Clean Production Level Evaluation in the Heat Treatment Industry" are being gradually released and implemented. These act like a strong east wind, driving the equipment upgrades and technological advancements of China's heat treatment industry. This presents an excellent development opportunity for our equipment manufacturing enterprises. Our after-sales service personnel often relay user problems to the R&D department, which frequently uses these problems as R&D projects for research, testing, and development.
